Antonio Canova was a famous neoclassical sculptor who worked both in Italy and in other countries. He was particularly good at nudes and with the delicate drapes that covered them . The dancers are one of his favorite subjects thanks to their light and the elegant shapes. They are carved, single or in groups, in white Carrara marble.
